We are all immensely proud of the commitment Tom has shown and the effort he has applied to completing this course on a day-release basis.

Henderson Green Engineer ‘Grilled’ by Sixth Form Students

darrencarr.jpgDarren Carr, one of our Senior Electrical Engineers, (photographed) was pleased to be able to offer advice to local Students at King Edward VI School, Southampton, at their Engineering and Architecture Sixth Form lunch on Tuesday, 2nd February 2010.  He was particularly keen to be involved as he had designed the Electrical Engineering Services for the new Hospitality Suite!

The lunch, arranged by the School for the Students wishing to pursue careers in Engineering and Architecture, gave the Sixth Formers the opportunity to ask questions and collect information from the Industry Professionals. Each volunteer sat on a table with approximately 10 students and were ‘grilled’ for information over a very tasty lunch in their new Hospitality Suite.

Darren found it a very positive experience and stated “I wish that I had been given the same opportunity when I was at School”.

HG Southampton’s Halloween Donation

halloween09-donation.jpgHenderson Green Southampton’s Director Lisa Watts thought it would be a good idea to donate our Halloween-themed balloons from our recent 10-Year Anniversary party to the Charity Unit at Southampton General Hospital (our local Hospital) for the children on the Wards who were in Hospital over the Halloween weekend.

The Nurses on G4 Children's Ward (photographed) were delighted to receive them.

Monies raised from our party was also donated to our chosen charity Southampton Hospital’s The Red & White Appeal and we have previously raised money from our climb up Snowdon for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital.

HG Southampton Sponsor ‘Will I make it Jeffery’

Henderson Green Southampton were delighted to sponsor Will Jeffery from Associated British Ports on his quest to run the 10-mile long Great South Run on 25th October 2009 for his chosen Charity Macmillan Cancer Support (www.macmillan.org.uk).

His aim was to raise £1,000 and, having worked with Will on the Cruise Terminal projects we have undertaken, we were pleased to be given this opportunity to help him on his worthy cause.

He managed a personal best of 1 hour, 35 minutes and 5 seconds and a position of 5,987 out of the 21,000 that raced and also surpassed his sponsorship target by raising a staggering £1,675 to date.

HG 11th French Golf Weekend

At Henderson Green Southampton's 11th golf weekend in France, it was definitely a case of 'hero to zero' as last year's winner Steve Jenner of Delta Technical Services took the infamous 'golden shoe' booby prize at St Saens, Normandy, on Saturday, 19th September 2009.

The winner of the coveted 'Coupe Curtisse', with a fantastic second round resulting in a 45 point total, was Derek Hair (23) whose home club is Bramshaw.

The sixteen Golfers who took part in the 3-day, 72-hole, classic played in superb weather on some fantastic courses.

Up the Creek, Even with a Paddle!

tb09-1.jpgOur Team Building Adventure this year began when Lisa apprehensively sent a Memo round asking who would like to come canoeing and camping in Tipis!  The response surprisingly was good, possibly because the Tipi company promised 5-Star luxury camping with sheepskin rugs and futons and stunning scenery in Ross-on-Wye but also possibly because Henderson Green people love a challenge and new experiences.

There was very little we needed to do to prepare for this trip but, before we left, we arranged ourselves into groups and came up with Cowboy and Indian nicknames; some too rude to mention!  We set off in our minibuses on 2nd October 2009 thinking we were in for a leisurely weekend but little did we know...!

Having experienced team building with Henderson Green men before and witnessing first hand their highly competitive nature, the girls decided to group together and enjoy a peaceful meander along the river Wye in Herefordshire; something they later regretted!  There were two things they could have never anticipated; the first was the strength and determination needed to paddle for long distances!

New Admin Member for HG Southampton

louise.jpgHenderson Green Southampton are delighted to welcome Louise Cocks to the Administration Team.

Louise joined us on Monday, 7th September 2009 and has fitted in perfectly with the rest of the team.

When visiting our offices or phoning in, she will probably be the first person you speak to and she is doing a great job.

In her spare time, Louise loves shopping, going out with friends and couldn't live without Chocolate!

No Sphere!

zorbing.jpgThe Social Committee at Henderson Green Southampton has been arranging activities and events for five years now, ranging from Theatre Trips to Quiz Nights to Murder Mysteries.  In August, a group of 'HG’ers' bounced their way down a very steep and bumpy hillside in Dorset in giant rubber balls!

The experience, called Zorbing, is not for the faint-hearted and the bravest of our bunch spent a very grey and dismal Sunday afternoon over the Bank Holiday Weekend taking part in this activity.  There were two Zorbing options, Harness and Hydro; both equally exhilarating and both making all the Riders scream from the top of the hill right down to the basin at the bottom - even the big strong men!

Alan Potter Charity Golf Day

A team sponsored by Henderson Green Southampton, comprising BIll Everton of Gentle Associates, Tony Boyle of LHC Architects, Justin Galloway of Vinci Construction and Rob Pratt, took part in the third Alan Potter Prostate Cancer Charity Golf Day at High Post Golf Club on 20th August 2009.

Around 100 golfers took to the course on a bright and blustery day and raised £11,000.00 for this very worthwhile cause.

Entertainment was laid on throughout the day, including a fantastic demonstration of 'trick' golf shots by Jeremy Dale, runner-up in the 2005 World Golf Trick Shot Championships.

Final Mermaid Sailing Day

mermaid.jpgOn 26th June 2009, teams of Sailors representing Henderson Green Southampton and our good friends at Northcroft once again made the short journey to Seaview Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight and took to the water in the 'Mermaids' to battle it out for the last time for the coveted trophy.

This year, the 11th consecutive year of competition between our companies, was as fiercely fought as ever.  Northcroft narrowly took the overall Winner's trophy despite HG having the 1st and 3rd placed yachts.

Once again, Skipper David Steel of TS Design, under the expert guidance of our own Rob Pratt and ably assisted by Chris Hore of Selway Joyce, took the individual top spot by some margin.

Northcroft won the series by 7 races to 4; well done chaps!

This will be the final 'Mermaid Match-Up' between HG and Northcroft, with an exciting new event planned for 2010.
